Curriculum-based RME Resources by SU Scotland

Scripture Union Scotland (SU Scotland) offers a range of creative, fun and engaging curriculum-based RME resources that are freely available for teachers to access. All these resources have been created within the last few years and have already been well received in classrooms across Scotland. Teacher’s Guides are provided, outlining the Experiences and Outcomes and Milestone opportunities relevant to the learning.

Here are some highlights of the resources available:

The King of Kings Resources

Animated film, ‘The King of Kings,’ starring Pierce Brosnan and Uma Thurman, saw box office success last year. SU Scotland is excited to have partnered with KOVA International and Angel Studios, as the official resource partner for the UK & Ireland. Resources relating to the film have been developed for second level learners. The free, easy-to-use pack includes six flexible lesson plans focusing on the miracles of Jesus. Each lesson is accompanied by a worksheet and links to engaging film clips, bringing the lessons to life. A PowerPoint presentation is provided with questions to guide meaningful class discussion. A further series of lessons focusing on Easter is also available. Around 25,000 Primary School learners have enjoyed these resources to date.

Explore Christmas and Explore Easter

In line with the curriculum, both of these resources take learners on a journey to discover how and why Christians celebrate Christmas and Easter through three short-film episodes. Explore Easter is aimed at 8-11 year olds and Explore Christmas is differentiated for first and second level learners. The resource packs include resource pack including PowerPoint presentations with reflective questions, quizzes and crafts, accompanies the videos to provide memorable learning opportunities that develop knowledge of Christian beliefs and practices.

ASN Resource – Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus? is an RME resource designed specifically for young people with additional support needs (ASN) in secondary education.

Who is Jesus? is fully aligned with the Scottish RME curriculum, making this resource also ideal for learners in Support for Learning units in mainstream schools. It explores where Christians get their beliefs and practices through sensory, tactile experiences where learners develop their opinion, assess, evaluate and have fun.

There are seven easy-to-use lesson packs in total, each including: a lesson plan, PowerPoint presentation including original illustrations, and a range of engaging activities.
