Comfortable group accommodation

Outdoor Learning Days @ Gowanbank

Due to COVID, we haven’t been able to host school residentials at Gowanbank. But instead we are offering Outdoor Learning Days to help with transitions – into secondary schools or full time education and also provide a valuable experience of the residentials missed by so many pupils over the last few months.

Gowanbank has 45 beds and is located in the town of Darvel, the birthplace of Sir Alexander Fleming and is ideal size for a class group. Gowanbank, located only 35 minutes from the centre of Glasgow, has a high standard of accommodation with 10 spacious bedrooms that are all en-suite. There is also plenty of conference space and break out rooms ideal for in-service training days for teachers, prefects training, music rehearsals and study events. Pupils can enjoy a range of activities with some amazing learning opportunities around the centre too. Robert Burns lived in Mauchline (about 20 minutes away) and wrote many of his best-loved poems around the area. It is a great opportunity to explore and have a true Scottish experience. We can offer opportunities tailored to suit your needs encompassing a range of learning experiences undertaken outside the normal school setting where pupils can develop skills, knowledge and understanding in a meaningful context.

We also have:
  • Pool table and Table football
  • Croquet and badminton
  • Board games
  • Sports Darvel (games hall) is a short 15 minute walk from the centre

We usually provide full catering for mid-week school bookings with homemade food and a choice for evening meals. We cater for all special dietary needs and would be happy to discuss your requirements. We also encourage those who are not sure about the food provided to try the food provided, but there are always alternatives available, so they don't go hungry.

“Gowanbank is an excellent resource for study weekends away. There is a large and fully equipped study room, a games room for pupils to relax in and a beautiful and comfortable lounge for everyone to watch TV in together. We used it for a group of Higher and National 5 Maths pupils who were studying for their exams in May. The grounds are stunning and the location so easy to get to from Glasgow. The staff are extremely friendly and beyond helpful. We have already booked up again for next year! I simply cannot recommend this centre highly enough. I'm just disappointed I only go once per year!”

“We used Gowanbank for our Prefects’ training, the facilities were excellent allowing whole group and breakout sessions. Access to the Lanarkshire hills meant we had opportunities for teambuilding too.”
